The Unpretentious Guide to Wedding Photography: Real-life stories, advice and interviews

The Unpretentious Guide to Wedding Photography: Real-life stories, advice and interviews

This book is an honest and unconvoluted look at the highs and lows of wedding photography. It’s full of everything you didn’t realise you wanted to know, and some things other books simply don’t talk about. It’s brimming with sage advice on how to find what really matters at a wedding.

It’s full of stories told by wedding photographers around New Zealand and the world, stories of triumph and of woe.

When I started photographing weddings over a decade ago I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I don’t mean I didn’t know how to take a good picture as much as I was just guessing as to how to run a wedding photography business. Many things I learned the hard way, and after talking to wedding photographers over that time, I realise that I was not alone in my cluelessness. So I’m here to give aspiring wedding photographers a ‘leg up’ about the stuff people might not have told you already. I’m not talking lighting and posing, although there is a little bit of that in there, this is mostly a conversation about the OTHER STUFF.

I answer your questions, even the ones you’re too scared to ask.

* How do I get started?
* What happens on a wedding day?
* What can go wrong?
* What do I do when the photo I’ve just taken looks terrible and I’m dying on the inside?
* How do I market and price myself?
* How do I keep my images safe?
* How can I make every wedding unique and blow my clients away?
* Is it possible that I’m a bit of a jerk and no one’s telling me?
* Where do I stand?
* Who is this ‘Uncle Bob’ everyone keeps telling me about?
