For the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen, a joint international exhibition project will take place at the Kunsthallen Brandts Klaedefabrik inspired by and named after Andersen’s fairytale “The Shadow,” written in 1846/1847.

“The Shadow” is one of his darkest and most complex tales, as well as one of the finest achievements of Danish Romantic literature.

The exhibition will gather about 30 international visual artists like Christian Boltanski, Giorgio de Chirico, Stan Douglas, Duane Michaels, Gerhard Richter, Wolfgang Tillmanns and Kara Walker, and, with the inclusion of videos, films, soundscapes, photography and painting, encompass the full range of contemporary art.
