the author is Colombian and he won the nobel literature.I think the book is better that him.It is about for a couple that they knew when they was younger instead they took diferent ways and she got maried with a rich man besides she always loved to first love.he never got married. When the epidemi of cholera back they met together and they dont believe that their love stay in their hearts.
One of my favorite books ever. His writing is stunning. He's so good that I don't care what the topic is, if I care or don't, I just need to read how he's going to tell me about whatever he wants. This book has the advantage of bringing a great tale together with his amazing writing skills so it makes his best ever for me.
The various critical essays help to explicate the many facets of this gem of a novel.
Such a boring book; with extremely unnecessary details
This is a beautifully written book. Marquez captures the essence of the human heart and mind. In many ways his books capture the conflict between imposed constraints (traditions linked to religous values) and the desires of his latin american characters. There is always tension between creed and passion in his writing. At some point in nearly all his stories the human heart prevails over the constraints of traditions and values linked to religosity. The coming together of two former loves, during...
Overall a beautifully-written story, but I couldn't really get over the lighthearted treatment of rape on numerous occasions. If not for that really glaring issue this book probably would have been a 5.
Some quotes from the book:She lived in a social limbo...One of the most widespread human virtues is silence about own accidents....The only thing worse than bad health was bad name (reputation)...Women commit only to resolute men because they inspire them with security so they may aspire to oppose life...Human beings are not born once on the day when their mother brings them into the world, but life forces them that they themselves are born again..I'm not rich - I am poor man who has the money b...
Painful love story and masterpiece. One truly feels for the main character and makes one ponder the maelstrom of feelings behind the topic of unrequited love.
One of my all time favorite books. It's literary, romantic, and historical, all wrapped up in wonderful language and adventure. Most recommended!
The writing is exquisite. The heroes are flawed on purpose. I'm not a prude but I did have to get to the end to understand why he used so much sexuality so much to make his point. Handed off a paperback copy to my youngest daughter (21 years old) with the caveat, "Don't tell anyone I've given you soft porn", she responded,"i watch Game of Thrones". Touche I thought.Great writing; glad I read it.
kind of depressing....dark romance. Lacking action? hmmmmm

I actually tried reading this a wile back and found it so dismally boring that I couldn't get through it. Even tried to watch the movie -- same thing. Oh, well.
An easy-to-read collection of literary criticism? It does exist! This volume was illuminating & contributed enormously to my discussion of the book.
a must for a lover of books in a pure form with a staight foward formula, just a great fan of the book its a bout love for a woman and the man torn between his heart and head, ihave read this so many times since the age of 19
I don't actually remember which translation I read.
Lovely story and very well written
Such a wonderful read.Loved every page. This book is a celebration of love which manifests itself in our lives in so many ways.
Hard to put down. Riveting writing. Set aside time to finish this book in one sitting.@IvyDigest
Unlike typical romance novels and the cliche love plots Marquez creates an original and equally intriguing tale of love; exploring the more taboo side of realistic love. His lovers, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza, are not star-crossed lovers all though fate does tempt them as such causing their love to flourish only to be halted by another obstacle-- themselves taking part in the delay of their love. "It was the year they fell into devastating love. Neither one could do anything except think
