Never really done the Excalibur stuff and it was a bit odd and also very slow burn. What is Apocalypse angle? What's the deal with the Otherworld stuff?I didn't really vibe with this but interesting enough and happy, for now, to see where it goes.
A new Captain Britain!! This is an unlikely team but one I am here for. Forgot that Apocalypse deals in magic. Not to mention my favorite duo talking about possibly conceiving. (Didn’t miss that) and a betrayer!!!!! Holy hell.
Very slow! Again... a first issue of a new series so let it have some time to get the introduction done, so I will try number two, but not sure I will continue after. It was very different, so the originality can be good, but just a bit too fairy tales like for my taste I was expecting something different with The Arthurian myth and all (which I'm very interested in) but it didn't turn out how I was hoping for...
I'm having so much fun with all of these new X-Men books!! You really start to get a sense of just how brilliant the parameters Jonathan Hickman set for this era with House of X/Powers of X are when you see how the post-miniseries books are playing in that sandbox. With X-Men #1 you've got Hickman continuing to do his Hickman thing, with Marauders #1 you've got playfulness and a sense of humor, and with Excalibur #1 you've got a weird sword-and-sorcery angle on the mutant world. So far I like Mar...
A bit jumbled but still interested in seeing how it goes. Betsy is front and center as she usually is, I’ve never been that big of a fan so the little surprise at the end doesn’t really work for me but I’m curious how it all plays out
I feel like I've missed something. I didn't read Excalibur before. I don't know anything about the Braddock family. I didn't even know they HAD a brother named Jamie. How the hell did Psylocke get back into her own body? Would a flashback have hurt? I'm not a walking talking X-men encyclopedia, just close to it. I thought Morgan Le Fay was the bad guy! so confusedThe artwork was beautiful.
I intentionally avoided this book back when it was released, but I have to say that was sure a big mistake. I love that this book refrains from the overly cliche 1st person narration that makes American comics unreadable. Each character had a time to shine and for that I am appreciative. I’m stoked to catch up on this series. RECOMMEND
The weakest of the comics to date. I don't think I'm the right demographic for this? It seems to be directed to people under the age of 14? Also, the Camelot bit is getting old and overdone, writers, please come up with something new. There's a couple of tropes out there that really need to be retired already and Camelot/King Arthur is among them.Anyhow, I found it silly and outside of some curiosity about what they are going to do with Rogue, I'm not all that interested. Apocalypse doesn't work...
oh my that captain britain reveal <3. Wasn't sure i was going to continue with this series, but im curious to check out a few more issues
Ah man, I really didn’t enjoy that at all.Maybe it’s because I’m a comics noob or whatever but I don’t know what Otherworld is nor do I care. I’m very disappointed since this is a series with a new and improved apocalypse or —A— as he likes to be called now.. but I just feel like it’s an absolute waste to use him like this for a first issue.I don’t think I’ll pick up the next one.
Pretty good. I really like Apocalypse. I'm glad to see Rogue and Gambit together, even if they weren't too important yet. Jamie Braddock is a crazy git as always. Betsy is a bit... resisting the call so far... but hopefully her character becomes more interesting now that she's Captain Britain. I like the magicalness of it all. We'll see how it plays. Oh, and its especially interesting to read such a thing after blasting through Gillen's Once and Future not that long ago.
I just got the first issue I might like it by book 5
A brilliant opening to the new Excalibur series, with stunning art by Marcus To. I never read an Excalibur book before even though I'm fairly aware of what's it about, but this first issue got me excited, made me want to read the previous series. While the X-Men and the Marauders series are taking their time introducing their stories, Excalibur jumped straight into action and we already lost the first mutant (is he though, a mutant? not sure).Something I'm not entirely fond of is the new costume...
First time I got involved with excalibur stuff. I really enjoyed it.
Probably the weakest of the new X-Men titles, but still enjoyable. I didn't care for a lot of the characters here but the dialogue was pretty solid and good art. I hope the plot changes my mind down the line. Can check out my Dawn of X review to see what I thought of all the titles. Dawn of X Vol. 1
I loved how mysterious this one got; that seems to be its distinguishing factor. Avalon is such a cool realm. It may have come from the fact that I haven't seen most of these characters in action before, but the ones which I knew ended up as the least interesting. The art is similar to the other Dawn of X titles, but that pink sword is just something else.
I had no plans of trying this new series with Betsy Braddock assuming the mantle of Captain Britain, but I was surprised that the writer is exploring the mutant side of magic. The artist is pretty good too, so if one would allow it, this book could probably surprise you. Indeed, I am intrigued by this new side of the magical world of Marvel comics.
I’m pretty new to marvel comics so I honestly had trouble keeping up with what exactly was going on. This issue seemed to need a little more knowledge of certain characters back story to fully appreciate it. All in all it was an alright issue with some solid art, especially Captain Britain(dude was legitimately cool af the whole issue).
Whoaaa. And the fun is just starting! - I like pretty much everything in this issue except for the front cover. It's meh. - Because it's under Hickman, you'll need to read this issue more than once to catch all the details. Not complaining! The comic is so beautiful, re-reading it is a pleasure.
