The character design change for Dean Fogg is confusing, assuming the graphic novels follow the show instead of the books. I like seeing the hedges included in Brakebills. I might check this out in Trade sometime, but this issue didn't grasp me.
It’s a 25 page comic book Luckily I didn’t pay for it, I used credits. But I wasted my credits. They should be more specific in the description
Not actually written by Lev Grossman ☹.
Se ve prometedora. Me gustó la adaptación que hicieron de los libros para tv y aunque los libros no me llamen muuucho la atención, estas historias sí.
I Would love to have a novel out of this story, this formar reads to fast for me, it doesnt let me bond with the characters. But it is a good story.
This is a good start to what should be an interesting class at Brakebills. There's not really enough here in the first issue to do more than say it has promise.
Enjoyable new chapter for The Magicians series. It might or might not make sense to those who are not familiar with the books/television show, and character development is a bit thin--but what does one expect of a less than thirty page comic? Looking forward to reading others in this series which will combine into a full-length graphic novel.
Y'all. Y'all. Y'allll! If you are a fan of the Magicians, you need to dive into this new series. Yes, it does not have the characters we know and have grown to love. However, what the masterpiece that is given instead leaves me with so many burning questions. The basic premise starts after our lovely cohort has graduated from Brakebills. Dean Fogg has the bright idea to offer hedge witches admission to the classically traditionalist school. You said what?! That's right, Hedge Witches. You know I...
I can never get enough of this world. Love the new characters and the new story is so interesting and in comic form oh god I LOVE THIS
3 upgraded to a 4 because I want #2 now. Honestly, the show outdid the books in my opinion but I’m enjoying these graphic novels.
The MagiciansTYPICAL FORMAT of SO MANY CONTINUATIONS TODAY! Dean Fogg (book Dean Fogg and not series Dean Fogg) opens up his school to hedge witches (So it’s a new class, Sound familiar? Where have we seen this concept before?) The new teacher is Warren (I’m assuming this is Julia’s Warren that’s a wood sprite). If this is *that* Warren, this could get *interesting* because that one used his knowledge of magic to sleep with his students. The new “students” are Pat, Audrey, and Emily. Dean Fogg i...
Interesting combo of hedge magicians at Brakebills and battle magic. Of course something went wrong right away.
Interesting so far.
This is off to an interesting start. I haven't experienced anything else from this series, but I'm intrigued enough to pick up the next issue. I'm also wondering if there's a trans character in here who's simply allowed to exist without her transness being her focal point. There's a girl who at one point talks to someone about getting the hormones she needs, but I know trans women aren't the only women who take hormones.
leafed through this but the art style is not for me
This is just what I needed to read after finding out that the tv adaptation is being finishing after the current season (I highly recommend watching it). It's gonna be hard not to read all 5 of these in quick succession!
The book had gay characters in normal, healthy amounts. This comic has 6 lead characters, 4 of which are LGBTQ and places a heavy accent on this fact. Done in bad taste, slash writing style.I came for the Magicians universe, but this stuff was not written by Grossman. He may have outlined the plot, but not the rest. They hired some inexperienced fanfic writer. Does the book seem like a fanfic? No, it's much more elaborate and deep. But this comic is not written by a serious author.
I have zero idea about Grossman's universe, didn't know that the books existed up until now, but this comic looks promising. Maybe I'll check the first book sometime.
A review for all five books - a totally generic, paint-by-numbers short story set in the world of The Magicians.
After revisiting the original trilogy I was surprised to find a "sequel" of sort, which turns out to be a comic book series. Right off the bat, the original worldbuilding is completely disrespected; even though in book 1 we learn as Quentin graduates that demons cannot be summoned on school ground, due to the heavy-duty wards (hence Fog has to take graduates under the school to get them out of the security perimeter to implant them with their last-resort cacu demons). In book three we learn ther...
