would've been real cool to see founding avenger janet van dyne on any of the 89 pages of marvel retrospective65/100
There’s a reason Marvel Comics is known as The House Of Ideas. Virtually everything they publish is big and bold and brimming with adventure. So it only makes sense that, on the company’s 80th birthday, they’d put together a huge book to commemorate the occasion. Boasting eighty jam-packed pages - one marking each year of their existence - by eighty different creative teams, “Marvel #1000” is part continuity-adjusting prequel, part nostalgic ride down Memory Lane, and part company-wide victory l...
The more stories you cram into a page count, the less satisfying each one is. And he less satisfying those pages are. My brain hurts after reading 80+ single-page comics. Each of them with too little time to do anything. The best part of the issue was wondering what event would be highlighted for each year.I regret spending the money and, after reading this, am also glad I didn't get around to ordering #1001
It’s like a fancy stack of postcards disguised in the form of a comic
Exactly what it says: a compact anthology of mostly one-pagers, going through the milestones of Marvel Comics' publishing history, using the Eternity Mask from 1939 as a sort of connective thread. Most new readers probably won't care about this one, but it was an 80th Anniversary Celebration piece, so eh, painless read with a few interesting points along the publishing timeline.
This is way to ambitious for it is able to pull off. All it amounts to a nice look at present day Marvel with a tease of what to look forward to next year.

I'm not a Marvel guy. I'm a DC guy. Generally speaking, I think Marvel is what fans in general think of when they think of superhero comics, what they expect. DC tends to be where the more interesting things actually happen. I think it's true of the movies, too, by the way. But I'm not averse to enjoying Marvel when there's something really worth enjoying. Marvel Comics #1000 is one of those things.Strictly speaking, this is a gimmick book that's playing off the legitimate, historic thousandth i...
So this is an anthology full of a big pile of creators doing one page stories of various Marvel stuff to celebrate 80 years of Marvel. I was lucky enough to get the Skottie Young variant (been meaning to add at least one to my comic collection) and read this fun comic! There’s a lot here and to do something different I’ll discuss just the parts I love and the parts I hate, I can’t go over all of the book because that review would be way too long.LOVE:8 Bells by Al Ewing, Steve Epting, Frank D’arm...
On the one hand, this was extremely pretentious. Marvel decided to put together an 80-page work for their 80-year anniversary, and used 80 different creative teams for each individual page. This made each page vary wildly in terms of tone and quality. On the other hand, is Marvel being pretentious if their own accolades are deserved?Marvel is a phenomenon. Millions of people have been affected by the comic book titan, many of whom are like me and have had their entire personalities shaped by com...
The talented came to play. The first of 2 books to find why everyone reads Marvel comics. Some history, some fun. Cause comics are for everyone.
I've really only been a Marvel fan since the Iron Man film and all that followed. Most of my comics were DC or others. But this was a pretty fun idea, mashing through 80 years of Marvel history and touching on many (most?) of the characters. As with most anthologies, there were hits and misses.
An homage to 80 years of Marvel Comics. The best part of #1000 is that each page represents a year and the most remarkable thing that happened on said year. A must-read for every Marvel fan.
