Teen Angels

Teen Angels

Chin Mun Woh
0/5 ( ratings)
Comic book for supporting public health education campaigns on AIDS aimed at teenagers and young adults in the 15-25 year age group.

Comics have proven to be an effective medium for communication with teenagers and young adults. Teen Angels is specially designed to support educational campaigns on HIV and AIDS. The comic book was developed over a six month period during which succeeding drafts were subjected to critique by medical and educational xperts; pre-tested on representative samples of intended audiences; and critically reviewed at focus group discussions involving both teenagers and young adults.

The story is about a group of friends who perform together as a rock group. They are faced with a number of challenges commonly experienced by young people of their age group. Together they learn about the dangers of HIV and rally to the support of two of their friends who are tested positive.

The comic book has been designed for easy adaptation to most Asian setting -- street signs and facades of shops and buildings in the panels can be quickly renamed to create a local ambience. The characters have been drawn to fit most Asian cities. Three pages have been positioned strategically at different points of the comic book to carry special messages developed for specific campaigns.

Groups interested in using the comic to support their educational work may request for help in adapting the book to the special needs of their audiences. The process of adaptation will emphasize the participation of intended readers of the comic in revising both the dialogue and drawings to accurately reflect their life style.
