The Culbertson Row Farm: An 18th Century Land Grant in Franklin County, Pennsylvania

The Culbertson Row Farm: An 18th Century Land Grant in Franklin County, Pennsylvania

James F. Druckenbrod
0/5 ( ratings)
Nearly three centuries ago, a Scot Irish family selected a slate ridge near the highest elevation within the Cumberland Valley to establish their foothold in the new world. One of the earliest plantations in what is now Franklin County, this book tells the stories of the families who lived and farmed on this large estate and its divisions through the years. The founding Culbertson family fought Native Americans in the French and Indian War and the British in the Revolutionary War. Later, a 19th century German migration brought peace-loving River Brethren communities to these farms. This deeply-researched study draws on original inventories, deeds, physical evidence, oral histories, and more to reconstruct a detailed portrait of the land and cultural history of central Pennsylvania.
