Love that this was set in Tyler, Texas, a place where I spent half of 1983 and half of 1984 working for the daily newspapers. Mr. Pool set the scene very well -- bringing up memories of people, places, and the general vibe, while showing me that the town has changed. I really enjoyed getting to know PI Riley Reeves, and I want to read more about her for sure. Compelling story with really bad bad guys and a fascinating cast of characters.
I've enjoyed Pool's previous books and loved this one. Riley Reeves is definitely a PI to keep on your radar. Instead, she finds herself dealing with a rebellious but very sick teenager, an overbearing mother, and drug-dealing, homicidal rednecks—none of whom want Riley meddling in their business. To make matters worse for Riley, her brother has just gotten out of prison and
