Really repetitive and slow start. I got a little worried at the start of the book because she had a few characters doing something dumb solely to push the plot. That's just hard to read in fantasy. Dumb people don't survive the horror movie of fantasy. Therefore having repeated characters doing something dumb when they are supposed to be knowledgeable characters is VERY annoying to read. It's hard for me to say no to a story with a dragon in it. Even if it's not the center of attention in the sto...
First of all, I enjoyed reading this story and am simply late in submitting this review. The general sense I had while reading this book was that it is a story about teenagers for teenagers or pre-teens. It's fun and wholesome; and, quite honestly, I'm finding it harder and harder to find books that aren't filled with age inappropriate content. I often look for books in the fantasy genre particularly books with magic and that include dragons as lead characters. So, this book is right up that all...
Suspenseful and interestingHenry is a character. He has rather funny goals for his new school year. William trains dragons. He genuinely cares for each of them. Raven is a mage in training. Her family has a reputation for the best mages in her town. She wants to be more than just a mage. Overall, she makes friends fast. Bella has decided that she has to beat Raven at everything even if she has to cheat to do it or break some rules. Mostly, the competition is one sided since Raven is more intere
Added this book to my select list of books with dragons: https://fantasybooksland.com/list-of-...It's a fun story, with a typical stubborn teenage girl, called Raven.Raven finds out that her mother was a war mage that rode dragons, and that sparks her interest in pursuing a similar career. To make progress at the Fowler Academy where she is studying, Raven needs a Familiar, and for that, she adopts a dragon called Leander. Her neighbor gives it to her as he couldn't succeed in training it. The fu...
What a spunky dragon! This book was lots of fun to read. I particularly enjoyed the battering of the dragon trainer. Good characters, good setting, great storyline ... just a wonderful way to spend a few hours escaping to somewhere else.
Excellent beginning of series!!I really liked this book,it was a little slow at the beginning but it also showed just how stubborn and determined Raven was.... She comes from a long line of mages and wants to be more than just a mage, she wants to be a war mage that rides her Dragon Leander... And goes to work till she accomplished it... Amazing start and I can't wait to start the next book in this series!!!
Wow!This is the best books about magic and coming into their own I have read since the Harry Potter books, and Dragon Riders of Pern. The characters bond and confidence grow, and the challenges are both entertaining and imaginative. I think Carr and Anderle show the readers thru this medium and the author's notes that all things are possible if you do the work, and believe. Enjoy!
How do you guys keep doing this? Awesome book! More like read all day read all night!I don't understand how you two keep doing this. I have read a s**t ton of both your books and have never had to say on book 5, this sucks. I just keep reading book after book of you both and the fine co-writers you work with. I'm disabled and have always read a lot. 2 years ago I started reading Mikes and Martha's books. I have been full ever since. Read the books! I have sent out so many suggestions to friends
When you find a good book with compelling characters, solid world building and satisfying plot conflicts with payoffs then of course you want it to last as long as possible. And for a youth adult reader I think this book could be all of those things. However as an adult I felt the resolution of "will she or won't she" was never in doubt and so found it frustrating that authors chose to drag it out to the end. I've dropped another Micheal Anderele series for the same reason: although the foray in...
Enjoyable readI would categorize this as YA except for the language....it's not a lot, but I suspect some parents might not like what is in there. That said, the book was well written with engaging characters. Clear conflict and resolution, with room for future conflict (so, pretty stereotypical for a YA series). The dragonrider relationship and the magical system seemed well thought out and made sense. When it did have action, it was well written. I suspect future entries in the series will be m...
Definitely this was an enjoyable read. The characters are well defined, even to the point of showing too much stubbornness - certainly enough to make her less appealing as the protagonist. She has a never say die attitude, which is required considering the blindness with which she takes some of her directions. In spite of that the authors did a great job of connecting the characters with the animals. The blindness by many adults to disappearances is extremely off-putting.Certainly this book is w...
Fantastic Reading!I saw this book and just had to get it 1. Because it is a story about a Red Dragon2. Because it has a great cover of a Red Dragon3. Seriously though it is a great story about a girl and her Red Dragon.. I read this in one sitting as I just couldn't put it down, plusI can't wait for the next book to be released!Give it a go and you won't be disappointed!
Aawwww!! Where is book 2When I first started this book, I almost quit and return it. I am so glad I didn't. At first it seemed a little to juvenile but knowing the authors I decided to continue reading. Now that I've finished I fantasize getting the next one! So when will it be out? Seriously putting a damper on my night (3:26 am). When I find a book that grabs me like this one, I WANT MORE NOW!
Read this book!Seriously. If you don't she might not write the next one and I really want to know how this future saga continues. I think I'm in love with Leander (I really didn't like the original Leander though it's been so long since I read the story that I forget why). Anyway, who wouldn't love a talking dragon? A friendly one anyway...who breaks out of prison to rescue you from your nemesis....
WarMage: UnexpectedI began reading this book because all the other authors I enjoy reading have not published their next books in their series. At first, it was curiosity that drove me to see what it was about. The first few chapter (under 10) were slightly disorienting and then everything started to come together. I've started the 2nd book and am now hooked on another series. Thank you!
