What is Work For?

What is Work For?

Joseph Minich
0/5 ( ratings)
America is stuck in a political rut. Our partisans constantly bicker, and with social media and cable news incessantly amplifying their voices, many have begun to despair of finding common ground. When it comes to labor, one side champions American workers over their employers, while the other promotes businesses and entrepreneurs, hoping their success will leave workers better off. Both sides, however, take our contemporary economic arrangements for granted. To break through this impasse, Joseph Minich contends we must root ourselves in the enduring truths of humanity’s God-given vocation. Cutting past the shouting and the slogans, Minich develops a principled account of work by directing our attention to our roles in the world and the church. Work is revitalized in the church but originally grounded in God’s creational mandate to man: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.”
