This was a solid issue with a few stand out stories. Personal favorites included “ conventional Powers” because superheroes and cosplayers “ A square of flesh, a cube of steel” which moving the explored gender, sexual identity and family dynamics, “ Waters of a new world” which featured a group of women facing the possibility that they will fail to save humanity and “ molecular rage” who’s protagonist surprised me by how much he grew on me.

The story of how I came to be reading an issue of Analog goes back to an approaching tropical storm and my fears of how I would amuse myself if the power went out. Since most of my reading happens on my iPad, I didn't want to worry about having to ration my remaining battery, unsure when I would be able to plug it in again to recharge. In the end, the storm blew past and didn't cause much trouble at all: no power outages where we were.I enjoyed this. There were some fun stories and… the factual
A possible Hugo nominee for the short story " Molecular Rage" by Marie Bilodeau . Everything is stacked against Stan, including the ability to get to work.

8 • The Gorilla in a Tutu Principle or, Pecan Pie at Minnie and Earl's • 28 pages by Adam-Troy Castro VG/Good. While fixing a damaged camera Ben Turbin spots a fat man and skinny man carrying a big crate up a steep hill for no good reason. Of course there is no proof, but he knows what he saw. When it happens a second time he has his camera with him, but again gets nothing. It seemed to me these characters were doing some slapstick. Then I got that it was a particular set of characters. Ben fina...
Most of the stories were very solid in this issue. I'm always happy to see Ed Lerner's and Adam Troy-Castro's stuff appear in Analog.
All around, an excellent issue. Hardly a bad story in it. Gotta admit, I was surprised to find a superhero story in an issue of "Analog" - "Conventional Powers" by Christopher L. Bennett. What surprised me even more is the realization that the story is apparently a commentary on the Sad Puppies/Rabid Puppies Hugo Awards controversy from 2013-2017.From Adam Troy-Castro's fantastic, whimsical "Pecan Pie at Minnie and Earl's" to Guy Stewart's "Road Veterinarian", this was easily one of the best iss...
