James really didn't know what "the bottom of THEE barrel was until later on in life. He was hospitalized for the first time at 4 months old for his first eye surgery, then needing a second eye surgery at 9 months of age, you could say wasn't a good start. James was an overly active child right from the get-go!!.... He blossomed into a highly touted track star at a young age. Could he run! He was in line, and if he worked hard, he could possibly be an Olympic 100-yard dash athlete!!!... It was his goal ...his one and only dream as a young boy! That's until a rare disease caught up to James at the early age of 9 close to his 10th birthday! He was diagnosed with "LEGG PERTHES DISEASE" a bone crippling disease in the hip region that doctors knew very little about at that time... Only one out of every 10,000 overly active children are diagnosed between 5 and 9 years of age. The dream of being an Olympic athlete was GONE in the blink of an eye. James was in and out of the hospital for a 5-year span, having 2 major surgeries on his hip. Having to learn how to walk, not once, but twice, was the icing on the cake. Thus, it left James with a noticeable limp. James felt the self-esteem he had left crash when doctors lied and said they would fix his hip and that he would be back to a normal child with rehab. Through two years of homeschooling and four years of high school, being given nicknames such as "peg leg" and "cross-eyed cripple", destroyed his self-confidence. These were just examples of the cruelness James had to deal with throughout his teenage years growing up!! After completing high school and no goal set in life, James had very little hope at succeeding in ANYTHING, which would later play a major factor in his up and down roller coaster ride in life!
