Following a mysterious invitation, down-and-out waitress Amy Sheridan finds her life transformed by a magical inheritance and a gorgeous country house in the English Cotswolds. Unfortunately for her, however, the last remaining occupant - a talking black cat who grandiosely styles himself as the Earl of Barrington - isn't too happy about the new owner.

Amy's new-found bliss is soon blasted aside when a local journalist is found murdered in the village pub. Desperate to close the case, the local police decide to pin the crime on the only newcomer in town - Amy. Aided by her best friend Val, Amy must convince the eccentric Earl of Barrington to help her master her new skills as a witch.

But as the body count grows, it's a race against time for Amy to clear her name and uncover the real culprit behind the murders.
