The bloodiest encounter in the Pacific War is about to erupt. The attack on the Gilbert Islands, and Second Platoon is tasked to hit the beach on Tarawa Atoll. A tiny island, yet of huge strategic important to the Marines crowded in their landing craft, heading in to the beach. And of equal important to the Japanese Imperial Army, who are dug in and waiting for them to land.

PFC Jesse Ferrell, Second Platoon, Company C, leaps ashore with the rest of his platoon, and everything is chaos. The tides are not in their favor, and many of the invading troops are stranded on the coral reef. The beach is a free fire zone for the Jap defenders, and their only cover from the furious fire of the defenders a log wall at the top of the beach.

Small arms fire keeps them pinned down, and sniper fire begins to take a toll of the beleaguered Marines. Ferrell spots a chance to flank the Jap snipers, and he leads the machine gun squad to get in close and take them on. The deadly fire ceases, giving the men some relief from the incoming fire. But it is not over. The Japs have tanks, and the real work of killing work is about to begin.

Tank Killer is the seventh shortread novel in the ‘Heroes of the Pacific’ series of fictional war stories set during World War II in the Pacific. The book is a collaboration between Todd McLeod and Eric Meyer, the bestselling author of more than fifty war novels.
