A very nice book that deals with how a small child deals with fear of the unknown. If you know a small child who is feeling anxious about going to a new school then this is a book you can read with them to help them deal with the situation. Art is very bright and 'retroish'.
A fun story about overcoming fear an anxiety by helping someone else! I enjoyed the art and learning a little bit more about El Cucuy!
Uff, this is so cute! I love little monsters that aren't scary anymore.
The first day of school or the first day of school in a new place can certainly induce various anxieties, and in this picture book, Ramon, a young boy, can't sleep because he is worried about going to school. Ramon is uncertain about how he will be treated there since he doesn't know anyone else. As it turns out, the monster [El Cucuy] whose home is in the cactus planter in his bedroom is just as worried. The two of them share their concerns, various times they were scared or scared one another,...
Isn't it funny how we easily discount our achievements and focus on the next big worry? In "El Cucuy Is Scared, Too!", El Cucuy, also known as the Mexican boogeyman, is disappointed that Ramón isn't scared of him anymore. Ramón says, "Other things are scarier to me now"; he's nervous because they've moved to a new place and he has to start at a new school. El Cucuy is a terrifying monster, and Ramón is so casual about the fact that he's not scared of him anymore! This picture book does such a wo...
So glad that Donna chose to present this lovely, illustrated Juliana Perdomo, story about "hidden" monsters to young readers.
Even the Boogeyman gets scared in this bilingual story. Who will comfort El Cucuy in his new home? (view spoiler)[In a touching twist, Ramón, a young boy and El Cucuy laugh together as Ramón shares his own story about how he overcome his fears of him (El Cucuy). (hide spoiler)]Along with those who are fluent in English and Spanish, give this one to those who are looking for stories to comfort anyone who is scared of the Boogeyman or other monsters in the dark.
Ramon has just moved to a new home and is nervous about starting school. El Cucuy, the monster who lives in Ramon’s bedroom, is also scared about the many changes. United by their common worries, Ramon and El Cucuy remind each other how brave and strong they both are, and together they find a way to face their fears. I love how this story gently addresses children’s fears through an unexpected friendship. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own worries and forget that others sometimes struggle...
El Cucuy Is Scared, Too! follows a young boy named Ramon who is settling into his new home, but is feeling nervous about his first day at school. El Cucuy (the Mexican Boogeyman) comes to scare Ramon at night, but Ramon has too many other fears to be afraid. But as it turns out, El Cucuy is scared, too. El Cucuy misses their home just like Ramon—he doesn’t like the new sounds of their home or that there are fewer dark spaces for him to hide in. Ramon and El Cucuy share their worries and build ea...
