This study traces the integration of Saxony into the Carolingian Empire through the end of Ottoman rule. Making use of cartographic representations, the emergence of a Saxon infrastructure influenced by the secular and ecclesiastical order of the Middle Ages becomes visible. Two key sections discuss integration in light of ideas of geographic area and using developmental timelines.
