The Lies I Tell (The Lies I Tell #1)

The Lies I Tell (The Lies I Tell #1)

Vivian E. Moore
0/5 ( ratings)
A fine line exists between the propositional formula of light and darkness, truth and lies, and somewhere in between is where I, Brielle Hughes am.
Someday I’ll forget which side I belong on; meanwhile, I’ll continue to navigate my truth. I’m comfortable in this altered reality. Here, I don’t worry about right or wrong or if I offend anyone. Still, I realize my actions aren’t honest, but hey, the truth hurts, and I’d like to spare my family the pain. Only the start of the lies I tell. I’m not proud of my dishonesty, but they wouldn’t understand otherwise. I know it’s better to be truthful, but my parents can’t handle that. So, I’ll continue faking it until I make it.
Then there’s my secret crush, Lucien Ward. Only the most gorgeous man alive. A man who doesn’t know I exist. Still, that doesn’t stop me from fantasizing about him, even if I never work up the nerve to say more to him then, Hi, may I take your order? He visits the coffee shop where I work. A hangout for college students and all the other people, like Lucien, who’d rather spend their coins supporting small businesses.
I think he works nearby, he comes in daily and always orders a cup of black coffee, to-go. Like clockwork, he walks through the door, and my eyes follow him like stars in the constellation. I notice him because he’s handsome and his accent is distinctive. British, mellow, and sophisticated, I like that about him. The tone of his voice is smooth, like a cup of tea that has the perfect amount of honey and cream that soothes me. I could listen to him speak for hours and never grow tired. Each word is perfect and grammatically correct. His cadent tone is like a love letter, poetic and intimate as if meant only for me.
Yes, he is the man of my dreams, and I do mean dreams. In reality, he’d never go for someone like me, a quiet introvert who never speaks up for herself or brave enough to say what she wants.
Until today, he walks right up and says hello to me as if he knows who I am. Lucien smiles at me, and it’s incredible. So bright and shows how perfect his teeth are. The effect is so powerful it makes me weak-kneed. If I died right now, I wouldn’t even care. At least my destiny would be fulfilled.
With only a few exchanged words between us, my life changed forever.
Only had I known getting to know Lucien would be the best and worst part of my life.
