My Fight for Recovery: A Story of Overcoming Life-Threatening Brain Surgery

My Fight for Recovery: A Story of Overcoming Life-Threatening Brain Surgery

Rob Plaskas
4/5 ( ratings)
My memoir book is about my recovery from a brain hemorrhage bleed during brain surgery. It caused the equivalent of a major stroke, leaving me with right-sided paralysis, unable to speak or comprehend what people said. It caused severe damage to my short-term memory and made me dependent on anti-seizure medicine for my new life. My recovery shows how some survivors of severe brain injuries can recover from having a productive life if they work hard at their physical, speech, cognitive, and emotional therapies. I am the sole author of My Fight for Recovery: A story of overcoming life-threatening brain surgery. I had help by an editor to make my memoir easier for readers to follow my story. I want people to know a severe brain injury survivor can accomplish many recovery goals if they have determination, willpower, strong mental and physical work, and a positive outlook on their new life. They can handle large workloads of gathering research and develop creative writing skills used to finish a memoir, as well as find the will to publish it. I have shared private details of my recovery because I want readers to understand brain injury survivors do not have to diminish themselves or their family relationships during their relearning and rehabilitation exercise activities.
