Josh Maybrook
3/5 ( ratings)
The fourteenth issue of Hippocampus Press’s acclaimed journal of weird poetry features the work of such leading poets as Ann K. Schwader, Christina Sng, K. A. Opperman, Adam Bolivar, Frank Coffman, Geoffrey Reiter, and Leigh Blackmore. Manuel Arenas, Charles Lovecraft, and Darrell Schweitzer contribute poems about or inspired by H. P. Lovecraft; Thomas Goff and Scott J. Couturier have written poems inspired by Clark Ashton Smith, while Steven Withrow addresses his poem to M. R. James.

Ngo Binh Anh Khoa, in “The Widow,” has written a long and chilling poem on the spider. Maxwell I. Gold, Wade German, Manuel Arenas have written evocative prose poems. Carl E. Reed takes several monsters of history and folklore as the basis of his weird poetry.

Among the classic reprints are poems by John Clare and Walter de la Mare. S. T. Joshi has written a review of the recent poetic work of K. A. Opperman, Thomas Tyrrell, and Farah Rose Smith, while Donald Sidney-Fryer adds an expansive review of the poetry of Steven Withrow, Frank Coffman, and Oliver Sheppard.
