Saving Rachel McCally: Inspired by the real-life experiences of Rachel Bowers

Saving Rachel McCally: Inspired by the real-life experiences of Rachel Bowers

Camron Wright
0/5 ( ratings)
A Quick Author Note: This book is a follow-up story to In Times of Rain and War. That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed separately, but there are some spoilers for the first novel, and I promise it will be more meaningful, more impactful, if you read them in order. When Rachel McCally enlists for her second tour of duty in Iraq, she flees the demons of an abusive childhood, hoping for a brighter future--except she leaves her son at home.

Filled with both guilt and a deep-seated need to be tested, she presses her platoon leader into making her Lead Vehicle Commander, the soldier who rides at the head of their nighttime conveys to watch for roadside bombs, the most dangerous position in the platoon.

When the convoy she's leading is hit by an IED, and the beloved soldier they call Preacher is gravely injured, the ordeal will test every member of her unit, and no one will walk away the same. It's only an unusual connection that Rachel holds with her grandfather, a man who served in WWII dismantling bomb that may save her. But will it be enough?

While serving in Iraq is the most grueling trial of Rachel's young life, she will learn that returning home from war can be even harder.

Saving Rachel McCally, inspired by the real-life experiences of Rachel Bowers, is a story about two soldiers, in two wars, more than half a century apart, and the ties that bind generations--because a good soldier never leaves another behind, especially if that person is family.
