An interesting read, even if it felt kind of choppy in some places. It wasn't long enough for me to grow much of an attachment to the characters, but it did leave me with some curiosity as to what's going on.
A really interesting premise! Definitely intrigued as to where this goes!
Interesting concept and great art.
Shadecraft is a new series by Image Comics, written by Joe Henderson and drawn by Lee Garbett, the creative team behind the Eisner-nominated Skyward. The book centres on Zadie Lu, a high-school student who seems to be dealing with a lot of issues. At the start of the book Zadie makes allusions to things having 'gotten back to normal' when her friend, Josh, is walking her home one night. Zadie insists he doesn't have to, as she's not scared of the dark, but he tells her he has an ulterior motive f...
Shadecraft works to quickly introduce us to Zadie and her complicated life. Aside from the brother in a coma and the evil shadows, she's going through things that we've all experienced at one point in our lives. This makes her instantly relatable, pulling you into the story right away. You can see all the doubts and insecurities of being a teenager play out on her face as artist Lee Garbett works some magic. You can read James' full review at Horror DNA by clicking here.
Captivating!
The book deals with teenagers, and so the dialogue can be annoyingly cutesy at times. And there are Cultural Marxist elements here, like in most everything these days. The white people here are stupid, evil, or at least subpar. But the premise and the story are good, and the art is really well done. This should be a good series.
I just read a sample.
Review to come.
This was one heck of a first issue!! The graphics go with the story so well. I caught myself going back just to look at the illustrations more. The storyline started quick and ended with a bang. Can't wait for the next issue.
A brilliant start to the series. The Artwork start great and becomes stunning by the second half. This is 'print and stick on your wall' stuff!Story is simple whilst setting up so much, the tone was perfect and I'm eager to read more.I liked everything about this Comic.
It start like Basic YA series with clumsy wierdo teen girl in high school with bro in coma, second half was little better but Iam not interested yet. I give it three issues, we will see
3.5/5 stars.
Beautiful art, interesting plot, ready for the rest!I loved the art, especially Zadie’s character and natural body positioning, and the shadows were amazing. Colors and shading did exactly what they were supposed to do, and plot is intriguing. Ready for the next!
so sweet and so sad.
A new offering from Joe Henderson, the showrunner of the Netflix series Lucifer and writer of the excellent comic Skyward Vol. 1: My Low-G Life. Apparently Netflix has preemptively picked up Shadecraft as well.16-year old Zadie is not afraid of the dark. That is quickly remedied when shadows start chasing her.Good artwork, diverse cast of characters, amusing. Some teenage angst. Nice twist at the end, I liked it! I might pick up more issues at some point. Can be read for free at Image Comics: htt...
