I gave this 3 stars, but as I read more books, my ratings change. So really this is a 2.5 based on the anti-climatic ending and unanswered questions. THE PLOTNora is the daughter of a serial killer. Now, a doctor, she's trying to live a normal life, until one of her patients die in the same fashion as her father's killings. Seems like someone has got the drop on Nora, and she starts to investigate who is behind the copycat killings, and why!?? This story is told in a series of flashbacks and cur...
This was an amazing psychological thriller. It will probably be in my top five this year. I read it in one sitting, completely invested in the story and characters.
THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THE ENDING! I FINISHED THIS IN LIKE 3 DAYS!! IT WAS AMAZING! AN AMAZING READ!!!
RidiculousFlimsy, superficial story, plot, characters, and writing style throughout. I skimmed over it in a sort of trance over just how nothing of a mess it is - only to find that the end is somehow even worse than the rest of it! The writer throws in a "twist" that is literally an impossible occurrence based on info given!!! This is truly one of the thinnest efforts I have ever encountered.
I’m just not fully understanding the plethora of brilliant ratings for this very mediocre novel. The entire story is reminiscent of In My Father's Basement, but without the intense character development and attention to detail that made Payne’s tale a solid stroke of genius. Instead, the brusque, straightforward style employed by author Freida McFadden is almost too simplistic. The attempt here to portray Nora as a potential heir to her father’s murderous throne comes across as elementary in tec...
Freida freaking rocked my socks off with this book. This is definitely her best writing yet. I loved getting to know Dr. Nora and her complex back story. I want MORE of Dr. Nora! There were some excellent red herrings in this story that kept me guessing until the very end when the twist stunned me. I read this book in one night! The whole thing! I couldn't put it down.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons! First, I loved the short, quick chapters. Secondly, I loved the fast pacing of this story. Third, I loved the character development of each of the characters, and I especially loved that of Nora. I read a lot of thrillers and suspense stories, and this one definitely kept me on my toes. I feel that the storyline was different, and I appreciated that it wasn’t similar to the majority of the thrillers that I’ve been reading lately. The only thing I
3 stars I liked The Wife Upstairs and thought I’d try this book. It wasn’t as good. It was a suspense/thriller but not one that I could really get into.Noras Dad was found to be a serial killer when she was young. She changed her name and became a surgeon when the past came back to haunt her. The ending was okay but tbh I wasn’t that invested in this book.
For me, this one had some serious flaws. Too many things left unanswered, the writing itself left a lot to be desired, ending felt very forced and not at all realistic, but the most important thing was (view spoiler)[I really don't think there's a serial killer gene that gets passed down from father to child, or in this case to both daughters. There'd be way more serial killers in the world if this were true. (hide spoiler)]I feel bad giving books one star unless I really and truly hate them, so...
A fairly enjoyable read, but pretty cliched. I wanted a lot more from the chapters on Nora's past. A lot of things are implied, rather than explained or shown and I think if the author would have actually developed those things, this could have been a really good book, instead of an average one.
I am so glad I dont have a basement. I probably would have been up all night. This book a #kindleunlimited sounded interesting and I had to read it. I love psychological thrillers and this one did not disappoint. Dr Nora David, a reputable surgeon, has a father who was a serial killer. I should say is because he is still alive but in jail serving a life sentence. The book goes back and forth from present day to 26 years ago when Nora's father was killing women by torturing them in their basement...
Settled on 3.5 because the final twist was good, but the narrator was grating (especially when doing other character voices or inflections) and several of the characters fell flat for me.
3.5 ⭐ for the twists. I pretty much enjoyed the story but NOT the narrator of the audiobook. Had to switch to the ebook because her annoying tone was driving me nuts (men and old people don't usually talk like spoiled Kardashians).
A bit above ⭐⭐½The plot was okay, but it wasn't the best book I've ever read. Yes, I didn't expect the surprise but I think the writing style just didn't work for me.
3 1/2 this is such a difficult book to rate because it was one of those books that I looked forward to reading and couldn’t really put down however it was very basic. The characters were under developed and the plot became a little ridiculous at the end and quite far-fetched. None of the characters were very likable and even the romance between Brady and Nora was very bland. I didn’t see any love there. In fact, the whole book there wasn’t very much emotion or caring for anything. Probably the b...
This thriller was right up my alley! I've loved McFadden's other books so I knew this would be good but it blew me away with the twist at the end! Nora is a successful surgeon and loves her work, but she's hiding a secret about her father: he's in prison because he's a serial killer. That's all you need to know about plot. There are so many twists and turns it will make your head spin; McFadden is a skilled master at keeping you off base! Who is friend and who is foe? Don't even try to figure it...
