If you’re looking at this book, you probably already have an idea of what South Korea is all stellar food, a great night scene, catchy music, tear-wrenching dramas, an army of pre-adolescent kids who could slaughter you at Fortnite any day of the week… the list goes on. But you might be wanting something more from your travels in Korea. Maybe you’ve already visited Gyeongbokgung Palace, Myeongdong, and Itaewon but need a taste of the outdoors instead, something more extreme, more unknown. No cities, no crowds, and no tourist traps that everybody else and their dog has posted about online. Or maybe you’re a cycler and have completed all of Korea’s mainland paths, the Cross-Country Course, the Four Great Rivers, the East Coast, and so on, and are looking for more. The Shinan Islands offer those things. They are one of those true-adventurer’s places, far flung, isolated, really the most isolated place in all of South Korea, and they are strikingly gorgeous too, full of natural beauty, pristine seaside landscapes, unique wildlife, culture, and, amazingly, 500 kilometers of cycling paths . Yet less than a handful of foreigners have completed them. To put it bluntly, if you’re into bike touring and visiting exotic new locales, this place is for you! You don’t have to be an advanced-level cyclist to do these paths. The shortest course is just 27 kilometers; the longest, 98 kilometers. But you do have to have to have a mountain bike or something similar – no road bikes – because these trails involve a lot of off-roading. There are 8 courses in total, covering 16 different islands within the archipelago, each with their own unique feel. There’s Jeung Island , for example, where you can see thousands upon thousands of mudskippers going about their business along the tidal mud flats; Imja Island which has the longest sand beach in Korea; Heuksan Island , the furthest of the bunch, that’s covered in stunning granite mountains, an absolutely gorgeous place; plus more. And this books serves as your guide. It covers all of the tricky things you might have trouble figuring out such as how to take the ferries, how to get to the trailheads, how to order your medal , how to stay healthy in lieu of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, and much more. It’s also full of extra tidbits like great places to visit along the way and the history behind some of those places. You can download the Kindle App on any device to read this book more easily. Also, please take a look at my other book, Korea's Ultimate Bike Touring Adventure, which goes over how to complete the cross-country bike paths -- also available on AmazonPlease enjoy this book!
