This was well worth the wait as all of the stories made are five star material. My personal favorite of the bunch are The Skin Of Other Men and Figure With Meat; Coda.
I think it is important to note that I am not a fan of Lucio Fulci, so this book isn't for me.I think this collection really is a mixed bag. Like some of the stories are really good. I find that the majority of stories are meh and the remainders have some bad vibes.
An incredibly well curated collection of morbid tales from some of the best weird and horror lit authors in the industry today. Particular stand outs include LC von Hessen's UNA BELLA VITA IN VIOLA, which (much to my delight) evoked the strong fantastique elements of some of Fulci's oft under appreciated giallo ventures, and HK Lovejoys PHANTASMA-GORE, an almost Machen like venture into the way Fulci employed cruel vistas beyond our comprehension to incredible effect.Mike Thorns OFFER TO THE ADV...
Though not every story feels like it can come from, or be based around a Fulci film, this was a fun read for horror fans as the stories run the gamut of the usual horror fiction:Monsters -checkHuman sacrifice - checkA evil tome - checkblood - a lot of itThere were only two stories I couldn't get into, mostly because of the way they were written, but most did a good job of pulling in the reader and keeping your attention.
long overdue, but a more than worthy tribute to one of my favorite horror filmmakers-the big standouts for me were Una Bella Vita in Viola by LC von Hessen, The Gift of Fury by Matt Serafini, The Skin of Other Men by Gretchen Felker-Martin, beautiful animal by Christopher Slatsky, Figure with Meat; Coda by Perry Ruhland and Offer to the Adversary by Mike Thorn
To date, my favorite creative project I've been involved in.
One of my favorite reads this year. A wonderful medley of weirdo fic inspired by Fulci in so many different, unsettling, and fun ways. A few stories that really made an impact: The Work That Goes On- Dreary Ligottian atmosphere infused with nightmarish Euro gore. Maybe the most unsettling read of the bunch, and definitely one of my favorites. I also grew up in Tennessee, so maybe that's part of why this affected me so much. The Second Death of Vicente Luna- The final journal entries of a conquis...
If you don’t like Lucio Fulci I don’t like you
I am a big Fulciphile, so I was super excited when I discovered the creation of an anthology of horror stories based on his films. I ordered it immediately and crossed my fingers in hope that it would live up to all the hype I was building up for it in my mind. So, did it meet my expectations? For the most part, yes. While a few of the stories are a bit too surreal, even by Fulci’s standards, many of them managed to expertly capture the Italian director’s dream logic and gooey gore (there’s a lot...
Overall, an incredibly mixed bag of stories. Standouts include Christopher Slatsky’s “beautiful animal” and Perry Ruhland’s “Figure with Meat; Coda” for being particularly inspired in their concepts and writing. The main issue with a lot of the weaker stories for me is that they either the format they employ doesn’t fit well with the story or they suffer from reverse of “book adaption doesn’t translate well on screen.”
