EXCERPT: 'Cassie, do you think I'm too old?''For what?''For . . . everything. I've come on holiday; I'm enjoying myself, but - am I too old for all the other things? For a bit of love?''Of course not.' Cassie rolled over again; the bed springs creaked. 'None of us are too old, ever. There are some strange attitudes in the world about aging, as if we all suddenly become too far gone for the pleasures in life. I've seen many people over the years who were old at thirty-five, their lives dominated
Imagine a disparate group of people, all ages, all different walks of life. Some are long time friends, some parent-adult children, some mates who play sports together. Somehow this group of people from a small town in the UK go on a bus trip around Europe together and come out as family in the end.I really enjoyed this book, and think that there are a lot of themes that would make this a great book club choice. Oil’s relationship with her daughter, and the path they’ve both taken in personal re...
Absolutely brilliant, I loved this book. A group of 13 people go on a trip to Europe and we are with them on their adventures. Each character is written brilliantly and we get to know each one of them as we journey with them. They are all various ages with Lil being 82. I laughed out loud in several places and was sorry when the book ended. My first book by Judy Leigh but now looking forward to reading her others.Absolutely recommended.
Favorite Quotes:Denise wrinkled her nose. ‘This is hardly a booze cruise, Cassie. I think it’s a mistake to imply that it is. While we’re enjoying the cultural richness of each place we visit, our interest in the alcohol is purely intellectual.’ She held up her beer, then took a deep draught. Her glass was almost empty.Lil caught her breath. ‘Maggie, we’re in the middle of the red-light area.’ Maggie stopped and stared at her friend. ‘Oh, no – should we go back?’ ‘Why ever would we do that?’ ‘So...
5☆ A Thoroughly Entertaining and Loveable Adventure. A Must Read! I'm a huge fan of books that feature the older generation characters and Judy Leigh's books are always guaranteed to warm your heart with loveable characters, Fun and Entertaining Adventure and plenty of Laughs along the way... and Lil's Bus Trip ticked every single box! I'm not going to delve into the story as I feel that's best left for you to discover for your self. But what I will say is Lil stole my heart she was cheeky, Fun,
It's been ages since I last read the a book in pretty much one sitting, and over the course of the evening I've done exactly that with this book. I just didn't want to miss one moment of this bus trip. A coach trip isn't my first choice of holiday, ok it's pretty low down the options for me, but that didn't stop me thoroughly enjoying every second of Lil's trip. And adoring every one of this motley crew of people that have come together on this trip. Even when you wouldn't think they would all g...
Yay! A new book by Judy Leigh! And if you are a fan of the author as I am, you won’t be surprised to learn that, “Lil’s Bus Trip” is the perfect comfort read! Definitely a porch read, with your favorite beverage and…Belgian chocolates? The book blurb tells you all about it, but again, you will be happy to know that this book contains all the good feels. There are a mini-bus load of characters, but the author presents them so vividly, that you will remember each one. You will love 82-year old Lil
There are so many reasons why I love Judy Leigh’s books – she creates the most wonderful characters (with a particularly special touch with those of more advanced years), wonderfully drawn situations and settings, a bit of travel and adventure (so much needed when we can’t do it for ourselves), always a little romance, and that perfect and elusive balance between plenty of laughs and moments of real poignancy that capture your heart. The undoubted star of this book is Lil herself – 82 and living
Sprightly eight two year old Lil is off on an adventure. She is going with a group of locals to northern Europe. She has roped in her daughter Cassie and good friend Maggie who very much needs to get away from her husband Brian who just sits in front of the TV letting her do everything. She almost bottled out thinking he couldn't manage without her. Lil is a character and couldn't let her friend not come. Many many years ago, Lil’s love was Cassie's father who then had to return home to the stat...
82 year old Lil and her 62 year old daughter, Cassie along with several town members take a bus trip across Europe. Lil hopes to convince herself she isn't too old to enjoy life. This is a fun read with lots of humor. The tour group visits some major cities and meet lots of locals. Makes a bus trip sound like fun. This is the first book by Judy Leigh that I've read and has me looking at her other titles. I enjoy an uplifting and fun read. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and
A sweet story about a group of neighbors and friends who go on a bus tour from the UK to Europe. We mostly follow mom and daughter Lil and Cassie, who in their 80s and 60s, find themselves changed by the trip. Full disclosure- I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
This is the perfect summer read! Lil, and 82-year-old woman, embarks in a road trip with her daughter, a friend, and ten other people. In the trip they encounter love, lust, laughs, and most of all, good and lasting friendships.I loved all of the characters, even if there were 13 people on the road trip, each of them was so well written and detailed that it was as if I was on the road trip with them. The mix of very different people worked perfectly in this book. My favorite character is Cassie,...
Lil's Bus Trip is sure to put a smile on your face. Li'l is the most energetic, full of life and fun 82 year old character that I have ever come across in a book or real life and I hope to be just like her when I get older! Forget the rules about how you should behave based on your age. Age is just a number and getting older is no excuse to stop having adventures, having fun and enjoying life to the fullest.Lil and her daughter have a really special relationship which is really touching and they...
Four and a half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒Lil’s Bus Trip by Judy Leigh is a delightful adventure with a cast of quirky and interesting characters. This book will take you on a laugh-out-loud journey through Europe, with a few characters who will soon become your friends. Lil aged 82 and her daughter Cassie, age 65 decide to go on a minibus tour of Northern Europe with their friends from the local five aside football team, and three members of the tennis club. This band of merry holidaymakers bonds together as
I loved this sweet and funny book. It was refreshing and very up lifting. It tells the story of a group of older people who decide to take a trip on a bus and tour Europe. Their energy for excitement and trying different experiences at their age was not only funny but also made me realise how precious life is and how you must make the most of every day and do as much as you can while you can. This was such a different read that it left me wanting more from this author. My thanks to Netgalley and...
I got this book as a widget from the publisher Boldwood Books and I didn't exactly know what to expect from it.It has been my first one by Judy Leigh, but definitely not my last. Such a funny, delightful read!A bunch of very different people, of different ages and different background go on a bus tour around Europe.I loved the easy writing (such a pleasure to read), the skillfully drawn characters (each with their own traits and peculiarities) that seemed very real and true to life and the humou...
Absolutely loved lils bus trip! Judy Leigh totally champions the older generation in all their varied glory! Age is just a number and there is so much fun to be had whatever age you are!A bus trip through europe, a mixed crew of local people each with a different reason to go away on a little trip and a wide age range! Entertaining, funny and downright hilarious at times ,as the group travel around France Belgium and Holland sightseeing, dining, drinking, experiencing new things, and making great...
A delightful novel with a finale that’s just heartwarming. If you like feel-good stories, you’re in for a treat. [Keep reading @ Bookshelves & Teacups]
Yet again Judy Leigh has written an uplifting tale that will whisk you away. And Lils Bus Trip does genuinely whisk you away on an European Tour courtesy of Toby Juggs. The cast of characters in Lil’s Bus Trip are truly heartwarming and like a close knit family. At the centre of them is Lil our main character. At 82 you'd think she would be ready to just relax and knit. But that ain't Lil she isn't the stereotypical old woman. At 65 we have Cassie, Lil’s daughter. I absolutely loved their relati...
Another fun novel by Judy Leigh who never fails to deliver!Setting out on a bus trip across Europe, every one of the passengers is seeking something different; 82 year old Lil is looking for adventure, accompanied by her daughter Cassie and neighbour Maggie, hoping that the latter’s absence will give husband Brian a much needed wake up call. Along with members of the local tennis club, football team and the local landlord they set off on their unforgettable journey. What an absolutely fabulous re...
