Thank you Edelweiss for an advanced copy. This is a very quick biography of Kahlil Gibran. The illustrations are colorful and beautiful. It is not a religious book, and it touches on wealth and inclusion. The snippets of Gibran's poetry accompany the passages, but I wish a little more were incorporated. This book was okay, but not something I think my students would particularly enjoy.
This picture book biography illustrates a conundrum I have with a lot of biographies being published for young readers. McCarthy introduces young Khalil Gibran with lyrical writing, and Holmes' pictures are beautiful. But, I'm unsure who the audience will be for this book. Most of the age range for which it is targeted won't have heard of Gibran. And, unfortunately, there's not an immediate curriculum tie-in, which means unless a specific teacher or adult has a desire to introduce him to young r...
