Started reading once and stopped to start again when less distracted to focus solely on just this story due to the heavily detailed information that will leave you hanging.
Not for meBig mistake choosing this fantasy book. It's not my style and all the invented James for ordinary things are confusing and of no value. I am sure there is an audience for this sort of stuff but I am certainly not a fan. From the start I found it meaningless drivel and could not get beyond d the first few chapters. Life is too short to waste on this.
I enjoyed this, but it really should be labeled YA. It's a bit simplistic in its language, especially early in the book. In fact I almost bailed, but I'm glad that I didn't.
The fake Hebrew did not impress me. The only reason I didn't throw this across the room is because it was on my Kindle and not a paper book.Reading other reviews that mention the Christian overtones is just making me more annoyed, tbh.
Druid An incredibly average easy to read inexpensive fantasy. Not sure why the writer thinks weird (spelling) names makes the character and story more interesting- it doesn’t. Wished more effort was spent on character development versus names. It will be interesting to see how many of these characters even appear in book two since the threads on many of them seem to have been dropped. Plot premise is okay but also could use more development. Magic is a sentient entity that is used by religious o...
This was the book I chose for Amazon’s first reads of April. I went in mostly blind, only reading the brief summary on the selection page and that it was labeled “adult epic fantasy”. To call this book “adult” is very generous. It reads like a young adult book with the main protagonist being a 17 year old girl whose naivety and general lack of knowledge in the world around her makes her read more around the age of 13-14. The Druid she looks after is constantly giving her surface level nuggets of...
A new entry in a new series, set in the Muirwood world. It's a comfortable return, and I'd recommend reading this only after having read the Legends of Muirwood and Covenant of Muirwood series. Although this is a prequel, as the name indicates, there are some spoilers regarding future series, and several details that you'll only appreciate after having read those others. It's a comfortable return because the author has an evocative way of describing the world, its nature, and its relationship wi...
Totally sucked into this book This book was so fabulous I had to finish it in one sitting. Having read the Muirwood, Kingfountain, and Jeff Wheeler's other books this book really intrigued me. The more I read the more pieces from other books came together and it was like eating a piece of cake it was so deliciously intriguing. I really enjoyed the character development, intrigue, and the little Easter eggs we get from the other books that all tie in together. Now, you can read this book on its o...
"We are slow to believe that which, if believed, would hurt our feelings."A wonderfully thought out world with deep history and lore. Heavy religious undertones. A quick and page-turning read! This is an easy and quick read that sucked me in immediately and left me begging for the next book. The world building is stunning and captivating, pulling me in and making me feel apart of the story. The characters are wonderfully made with great development and mystery. The definition of good and evil is
Love the Muirwood magicAnother amazing story. A lot of the work of this author seems to me to sightly repeat the overall plot themes, but it's not necessarily a bad thing it feels more like a 'history repeats itself' or 'we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past that we fail to learn from' kind of thing. Once more this is a story of a wretched of Muirwood who has power and seems to be on a journey to become much more than a wretched. But as with all his books it is the smaller political i...
I had a few qualms about the book. My main one is that the overtones of the book have a very heavy Christian religious tone. Clear references to twelve disciples (now 12 mages) and to the garden of Eden. And while most of the time I have no problem with that there are a few minor details that bug me. One of those 12 original mages allows the main character to be almost raped. (He had knowledge of the perpetrators intentions before). To merely prove a point. And it is only after this incident tha...
I truly enjoyed this world created by Wheeler on historical and spiritual stories of Medieval times - one of my favorite times in history. I am always drawn in by the juxtaposition of religion and political history. What better place to set a story then, but in a burgeoning abbey? Already I am intrigued! Now add a disingenuous religious leader, a prisoner who is a druid, (and could he possibly be one of fhe most powerful druids of all time ), and a young girl, known as a "wretched", a lowborn fo...
Okay...so...AHHHHHH!!! Is it September yet for book 2?!?! Muirwood, Kingfountain, and Mirrowen in this book... O.M.G. I had got goosebumps and had to put the book down and walk a few circles when I saw so many beloved characters, abilities, and items... I don't really know what to say about this book except that if you are a fan of Jeff Wheeler...this book is one of the best yet. I am so excited for this series and can't wait to see what happens next!!
I really liked The Druid. At the beginning of this epic series you'll meet Eilean A Wretched. Eilean gets picked to help establish the building of a new Abbey. She comes across many interesting characters and has many choices to make. Her task is to befriend the prisoner, the Druid Mordaunt and find out where he has hidden a sacred tome. Plenty of secrets and discovery's make an exceptional tale with a great ending. Looking forward to reading book #2.I give The Druid 4 stars for its intriguing r...
