thank you netgalley, wednesday books, and courtney summers for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review! this was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it did not disappoint. it’s as shocking, disturbing, and realistic as sadie was and i finished it in a day.this book follows georgia avis, a queer girl who dreams of becoming someone. she believes the way to achieve this is by becoming an aspera girl and working at the resort. she then finds the dead body of a girl that’s b...
Please be like Sadie 🙏🏻
I really don't know how to feel about this book. It made me feel angry and disgusted. I know that was the intention for some of it, but for some parts of it, I'm not so sure. I thought the beginning was well done, but I couldn't understand the extent of Georgia's obsession with Aspera. And I don't know why her mom or her brother didn't even really try to warn her about it.
Damn. This book hit me right in the feels! It's a tough read, though very realistic. Thanks to St. Martin's Press, Wednesday Books and Netgalley for my copy!
This gripping, addictive, riveting cutthroat wild ride makes you numb for hours! You keep giving empty looks, staying speechless as the whirlwind thoughts occupy your mind! Another bold, depressing story is coming from Courtney Summers hit you like a sucker punch! Her words make you dizzy, disturbed, flabbergasted, shocked! This book is telling the ugly realistic Aspera world ruling entire town, wrapping law enforcement around its finger. This is the real, bleak, ruthless, vicious world where o...
This one was REALLY good. I was hooked the whole time. I tried to predict what happened and who did what, but it kept having twists and made me clueless. I enjoyed the premise and the main character is absolutely my favorite. The ending was phenomenal! There are major trigger warnings (rape, dead bodies, etc) but it was a great and thrilling read. I truly enjoyed this book, would highly recommend everyone check it out!I received this ARC was given to me to review from the publishers and NetGalle...
courtney summers really said
I've been obsessively following Courtney Summers newsletter for details on her upcoming book, I'm The Girl. She's posted on social media about how this book is set in the same world as Sadie. If that doesn't give you any indication of how brutal this book is, then I don't know what will. When I got the email about review copies for I'm The Girl, I immediately accepted.....and then I read the entire thing today. I'm so emotionally drained from this story. The energy of this book is raw...
When Courtney Summers writes a book, I read it. There's no other reasonable option.
Courtney says its going to be cut-throat. I believe her!! You should too; read my review for her previous book — The Project.
NEWS"You’re used to meeting a Courtney Summers protagonist in the bitter After. They know, like you, the world is cruel. Since the folly of believing in it has already come with a cost—maybe they’ve even paid the ultimate price—and because no one can hate them for that more than they hate themselves, it’s easy—easier—to rally around them. To love them.I’m the Girl is not about that protagonist."April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month and I wrote about I'm the Girl, Georgia, and th...
Courtney Summers has done it again! After loving her previous works, I was so excited to start this and was not disappointed! When Georgia Avis finds thirteen-year-old Ashley James dead, it's up to her and Ashley's older sister, Nora, to find out what really happened. In a town filled with wealth, secrets, and more, it's up to the girls to find out what really happens behind closed doors before the killer strikes again. Courtney Summers weaves a twisting and thrilling tale that will leave you gr...
I’m the Girl, a mystery/thriller, was a solid 4 star book. The book centers around teen Georgia Avis, whose life changes forever when she discovers the dead body of thirteen-year old Ashley along the side of the road and then is hit by a car, near the wealthy Aspera resort. Along with Ashley’s sister, Nora, Georgia sets out to unravel the mystery surrounding Ashley’s murder, while all the while, desperate to become an “Asperan Girl”. I’m the Girl was an extremely fast paced book-dealing with mur...
This book is devastating. But it's razor sharp and incredibly moving. At one point, the main character, Georgia, is asked whether she accepts the world as it is, and I think so many of us do because we don't know how to rally against it, because we are so deeply lost in it. This book is as beautiful as it is gutting, as soft as it is hard. I will be thinking about this one for a very long time.
Bold, brave and unflinchingly visceral, I'm The Girl exposes the raw twitchy nerve at the emotional epicenter of girlhood with a message relevant for all ages: learning to understand the world in which we live doesn't mean caving to it. Summers is a singular voice, a feminist force, and a writer who plays by her own rules.
this book put me in the ground but you know what i can't even be mad. at a certain point u have to expect a courtney summers book to bodyslam u into the dirt.every new outing gets more subtle and specific with how she explores navigating womanhood. georgia is electric here, by turns calculating and heartbreakingly naive. it's actually terrifying to watch her try to gain a foothold in a world that already had plans for her, and long before she was ready, and all she did was exist in the body she
this whole book was just me thinking that tiktok sound “it’s hard to watch her be so.. dumb”
Wow I hate that cover BUTIT SOUNDS RIGHT UP MY ALLEYWhen sixteen-year-old Georgia Avis discovers the brutalized dead body of thirteen-year-old Ashley James, she teams up with Ashley’s older sister, Nora, to find and bring the killer to justice before he strikes again. But their investigation throws Georgia into a world of unimaginable privilege and wealth, without conscience or consequence, and as Ashley’s killer closes in, Georgia will discover when money, power, and beauty rule, it might not b...
***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of I’M THE GIRL by Courtney Summers in exchange for my honest review.***Being approved for an ARC of I’M THE GIRL is like winning the lottery and I jumped into the book as soon as I downloaded the galley.Reeling from finding the body of a dead teen then being hit by the murderer’s car Georgia doesn’t want to team up with the girl’s sister Nora. Georgia has ambitions of a bigger life than her deceased mother’s, dreams her mother tried t...
I just finished the book and my heart is pounding. I always prepare to be destroyed by Courtney Summers, but I’m somehow always surprised at how completely she does it. This was amazing and captivating and so hard to read at times because Georgia is right, this kind of world is everywhere. Thanks, Courtney, for another broken heart, and thanks, Edelweiss, for the advanced copy so that I can now suffer in silence until September when it’s officially released and I can finally talk to others about...
