This is the true story of the author's father's escape from Kiev. When Hitler invaded Kiev, Alex Lazutin's family became refugees, leaving everything behind. While traveling by train, the Germans captured them and put them in work camps. Later they ended up in a displaced persons camp in Germany. When WWII ended, the family immigrated to Boston where they set up a new home and reunited with friends from the old country.
