The date: 15 September 1975; the time is shortly after midnight when two Sydney journalists are beaten up and abducted while investigating the murder of campaigning colleague Juanita Nielsen. The abductors, employees of crime lord Abe Saffron, then drive them at breakneck speed to a notorious police station where they are falsely arrested and jailed.
And so began a forty-six year-long journalistic investigation that eventually resolved the murder and proved that the most protracted police investigation in Australian criminal history was a cover-up instigated by the killer, a notorious former cop under contract to Saffron, and activated by his mates of the Serious Crimes Squad of the NSW Police. The author is one of those two journalists. Now aged 89, he is the last man standing. This is his story of the investigation
