After the participation of thousands of people in the Zapatista Escuelita or “Little School”, and being able to experience first hand what day-to-day autonomy looks like, Gustavo Esteva proposed this text to us. Eight years after the experience of the Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca , and 20 years after the Zapatista uprising, this text invites us to exchange ideas and think deeper about the new forms of building freedom and autonomy coming out of southern Mexico. Originally written in Spanish, we translated this text a year or so later, in order to continue the dialogue between movements.
