Old Dog For The Hard Road is a compilation of short stories from well known Cork author, poet, musician and playright Pete Duffy. Growing up in the north side of Cork city in hard times, Pete brings his life experiences, wit, Cork humor and great imagination into his stories and poems that are not just all about Cork but also reflect his wider interest in mankind. Pete’s writing is entertaining, and it is also full of light and hope and courage, and is charged with the expressions of his highest and deepest feelings and declarative of his grandest thoughts, that are so redolent of his sentiment. They remind us that there is a scared part to life which evokes from us a very human and sympathetic response. These are real stories and each one can speak for itself and therefore needs no further introduction beyond its own title. As a fireside companion, it is magnetic, yet this is a book than can be taken up in broken hours, and enjoyed for its pure tastes, refined pleasures, and the love of home, country, man and God, I know of nothing better than this, and I can hardly utter a more kindly wish for every home than that “ Old Dog for the Hard Road” may pass into an honored position in every one of them.
