I'm dipping my toes into the world of graphic novels, so this anthology was a good way to get a feel for what I like, what I don't like, and what I don't understand at all. The comics run the gamut in style and subject matter.
Fantastic anthology. Some wonderful art.
Just when I was beginning to despair of finding a copy of this now out-of-print book that I could keep for my very own, one turned up at a friend’s book swap this weekend. This book is like bizarro-world with make-your-own superheroes. I’m not sure how Chris fits so many wonderful creators into all of his anthologies, but he’s clearly a master.
Excellent anthology of unorthodox superhero stories by a variety of talented illustrators. Fun stories and great art.
This is a collection of indie comics around the theme superheroes, most of which are reinterpretations with at least some irony. There's some amazing comics in it, and some okay ones, and a few bad ones, which I why I gave it the three rating. The good ones definitely make it worth checking out though.
There are a few gems in here, but it's mostly just brimming with overly self-conscious superhero parodies. It's clever for a bit, but ultimately it's just not as fun, especially when there are nearly 300 pages of them jammed together.
