Irena Lasiecka is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the
University of Virginia. Her current research interests include control
theory for PDEs, nonlinear dynamical systems, semigroup theory,
numerical analysis of PDEs, and related control problems. She is
author of more than 170 journal articles and coauthor of the two-volume research monograph Control Theory for
Partial Differential Equations: Continuous and Approximation Theories.
Dr. Lasiecka, who has received numerous mathematical awards, is an
IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Chair of IFIP Committee TC7 on Modeling
and Optimization, and editor of numerous mathematical journals.
