Bob Chapman is a capable, though unenthusiastic, psychotherapist that finds his work tedious and unfulfilling because he finds living, with its unrelenting and cool regularity, tedious. Thus, he takes refuge, as often as he can, in sleep and dreams. Life loses its ordinariness when Bob meets Anna Boyko, a Ukrainian immigrant, in therapy. Shortly, the two marry and begin together their lifeaunexceptional, except for Annaas undisclosed torment, which is the effect of a horrific secret of her childhood that she will soon rediscover years into their marriage.
