Memories of a Kanturk Childhood is a collection of short stories that tell of happy and funny incidents of a typical child of the 1970’s. The characters you meet could maybe exist in country towns all over Ireland. The 1970’s child was brought up with a certain humour, innocence and grace. There was no preciousness and if you got bit in the butt by a dog you were told “give it a rub, you'll be grand and stop annoying the dog”. The whole village or town was your playground and the community watched out for each other's kids. This book captures a moment in time where children ran free and wild with a healthy dose of religion which kept one in check! My hope is it will encourage other people to write their memories of their own village, town, city or suburb all over Ireland or the world.
