I know I've said I'm not the target audience about books before, and nothing could be more true about WORLDS NEXT DOOR, which is aimed at younger readers. But you know what? I REALLY enjoyed reading this, a lot more than I expected to (hence how long it's taken me to get around to it!). The stories were all charming and well-written, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this collection to the young or the young-at-heart! (And yes, I have a story in it, but don't hold that against it!)If I had to...
There were some lovely stories in this collection, but quite a few read as being for very young audiences. Not surprising, since the focus for the anthology is for 9-13 year olds, but as an adult reader I didn't always find it entirely satisfying. However, younger readers will definitely enjoy it. Standouts for me were Dirk Flinthart's "The Best Dog In The World", Felicity Dowker's "The House on Juniper Lane", Edwina Harvey's "Rocket and Sparky" and Angela Slatter's "Genevieve and the Dragon".
I won thus book from Goodreads First Reads!!!I actually really enjoyed reading this book! I love books with multiple short stories written by many different authors. This book is very fast paced and very easy to read.This book is about multiple things. There are so many different stories in this book. I would definantly recomend this book to everyone!!
Okay, I'm biased. I have a story in this. But they are really very good, and if you don't at least sniffle over Dirk Flinthart's story about the best dog in the world, you have no heart. There are sad stories and funny stories and plain silly stories and I had a great time trying them out on my class last year, using the "Literature Circle" style.
