An excavation being done at Vlad the Impaler's former castle in Targoviste, Romania, by Miles Brandish and his comnpanions, the Andersons, yields a startling find. That find, The Vampire Sonnets, is stolen by one of Brandish's comrades, John Harrison, who flees the site with the Sonnets only to be pursued by the Andersons and their vampire slaves with designs on eventual world dominion and creating a superior vampire race out of the ashes of Vlad's empire of horror.
