Lorrie McDonald was only twelve years old and she had already killed a drunken cowboy. Gold had been discovered in Colorado and she was on her way to get her share. She hitched up the horse to the buggy and tied the cowboy's horse to its rail, then watched from the barn until the house had burned to the ground. She drove away with the cowboy's horse in tow, his Winchester rifle and the jar of scorpions on the seat beside her. It was 1865 and the War Between The States was over, but in her mind, a new war was just beginning. She made a promise to herself that no matter what happened, no man was ever going to take advantage of her again.
