Though I really like it I was very disappointed at how short it was. It left me wanting more.....
Really like the writing style but way too short!
What a waste of electronic space. I hate it when there is little to no point to reading the story even when it is a short story and the second short story that came with it was even worse made no sense at all. Dreadful writing and a waste of time
The short story about two little sisters might have been developed into something good, but just as I was starting to get into it a little, it ended. No cliff hanger, just stopped. I literally said to myself, "What was the point in that?"
Wonderfully written. Seems like it could be the forward of a very interesting book to come. Even though it was short, I really enjoyed it. It dragged me in and kept me wanting to know what happened next. I'm hoping to read more of Kimberly McCreight, and I am happy to know I enjoy her writing style very much. Glad to have read this tidbit of great writing.
Grade: C+Two little girls, likely sisters, possibly twins, peak into a forbidden box. The narrator witnesses her mother acting strangely. The ending was very open ended and I wanted to know more. I can't say any more about CLARA'S ROOM, without spoiling the whole story.Kimberly McCreight writes compelling stories and characters. I just wish this one had more content.
Not really something one can say they "read" the way you would claim to read a book. More like an extended magazine article. Reminded me of those read submission contests pop magazines had in the 90s. A good read, but left you wanting more.
I was hooked. Sure, this was categorized as a short story, but I was surprised at exactly HOW short. Reading this felt like a teaser trailer to something that could possibly be an interesting full-length novel. When I got to the end I kept thinking it had to be a mistake, there had to be more! It was like reading the first two pages of a really exciting new book and then leaving the bookstore without it...
I am totally confused...what was the point of the story?
I read this like a preview of a really good novel, I hope that is why she wrote it. Emotional but ending left you hanging which would fine if the author goes on to write the full story. Readers would enjoy the sisters and their story in a full length book I am sure! The only reason for low ratings is because it is a short story. I read Reconstructing Amelia by the same author and enjoyed it!
Very short. I liked the writing style.
Totally a teaser! A dribblet of an inciting story line that abruptly ends just after your pulse starts to race.
Ummm! What. This literally is a very short short story. This short story had potential. Too bad it couldn't continue
Too short! There was absolutely no point. I was just starting to enjoy it and it was done, leaving more questions than answers. I enjoy the writing style so I may look into this author's other works. The free preview at the end was longer than the story it followed. :(
Free, and ludicrously short, story that had no real conclusion and served only as a set-up for a (much lengthier) extract from Reconstructing Amelia. Too short for there to be any point in me rating it. Why not just offer a free extract? I'd rather have paid a small amount of money for a more substantial story.
I am not one of those people who can analyze a story to find the deeper meaning so this totally left me scratching my head.
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the 2 full length novels by Kimberley McCreight I decided to read the free short story available on Amazon. The story displays some of the talent of this author but gives little more than that. Just as the book starts to get interesting it finishes, maybe I am missing the point but why not develop it into a full length novel. I won't be put off this author as I enjoy the writing style and the 2 novels were very good.
Very disappointing! It has potential to be an excellent full length novel and you can't consider this a short story either. It barely gets started and then it just stops. It's more like an excerpt for the book.
Over all the book was kind of not amazing. I think the book was a little to short. This book is about some little girls and they find a box filled with things. I liked this book a little because it was ok.
this is not a book, it's a short story. I liked it at the beginning but it ended abruptly and left me with a lot of questions.
