WELCOME TO DECEMBER PROJECT! DECEMBER PROJECT IS OVER!!!thank you all for following along, and many wonderful wishes for a jubilant 2017!!!last year, amy(other amy) tipped me off to this cool thing she was doing: the short story advent calendar, where you sign up to this thingie here and you get a free story each day. i dropped the ball and by the time i came to my senses, it had already sold out, so for december project, i'm going rogue and just reading a free online story a day of my choosi
The cover art for this Tor.com short story selection first drew my eye, with a young boy wading waist deep in water, his wheelchair abandoned to the side. "Old Dead Futures" is a devastating story of self-sacrifice by a young boy with disability, trapped in his body but possessing a coveted ability to cherry-pick potential futures and alter the timeline. Reading this story was similar to watching a train wreck in slow motion - you know the horrific ending is coming, but you are powerless to chan...
Well writen, and downright brutal. A bit too unresolved for my tastes, and I was left wishing more of the story was filled in. Tina did a great job of alluding to the background pieces, but I felt a bit unfulfilled - I wanted more. Always a risk with very short stories, but this probably could have been 5 more pages and been much more robust. I enjoyed it overall, however feel like it needed a bit more substance.
Connolly does it again!!! This story broke me. It revolves around a little boy who "sees red" and fears of one day taking that anger out on his mom. Another person similar to him conducts experiments on him involving the future, which leads to inciting the boy's "red." One of my best friends was diagnosed with anti-social, and no matter how bad, crazy, or harmful she became, I always saw little pieces of light. Connolly explores that little piece of light that we all hope is there, and in this c...
Another very short story that I hoped would be a bit more developed. Liked the idea of changing the future by adding a specific one to the timeline. Also, disabled character! That must be a first for me.
The synopsis is more interesting than the story itself.Enough said.
A very dark little short story about a boy who can change the future.
Li aqui, marquei lido aqui: Some of the Best from Tor.com, 2013.
Mentally torturing, very much disturbing and one of the most worse short story that I ever read. Wish I didn't read it. But because of that nice cover I fall for it to read & it come out as a huge disappointed tale...Wasted my time by reading it, no doubt...
Melancholy short story that I picked up from Tor.com some years ago. A boy with the ability to change the future makes a tough choice. Like most of the short stories I enjoy, some interesting things to think about. Rating: R, for an f-word.
I don't really know what to say, I just didn't really like it.
Odd and depressing.
A dark tale of self sacrifice and time travel
Disturbing and original. I kinda wish it was longer.
A haunting look into a world where some individuals can pull the future out and change it. But for the boy, John, living in a wheelchair and going into the rage-filled "red" to uncover it are heavy prices. It is only part of a bigger story on this world, but it shows a transition and self-sacrifice the boy pays to save the people he cares for. It is a world that I wouldn't mind reading about again, to see if John could find new abilities to fight his caged fate.
Well that was sad and interesting
Another Tor.com short story.I'm not sure if it's me, but I'm not getting much out of this latest batch of short stories. They're all good, but I'm not invested.
