At eighty, Rhetta Sweeney was living with her sister, doing what was expected of a woman her age. Author's note: This is my fourth story, my only novella . It was probably the toughest to write, for parts brought back personal memories I thought I'd successfully stowed away. But I've always told people that pain makes one a better writer...Word-for-word, this is my most powerful tale. I started writing with exactly one idea: Write a story about an eighty year-old woman. That was it. But everyone has a story, and Rhetta certainly is no exception. Each time I re-read certain sections I break down, even though I wrote the words myself. All I can say is keep the Kleenex handy!
