Centurion's gold

Centurion's gold

Angela Taylor
0/5 ( ratings)
Nine year old Izzy and her eleven year old brother Josh go to stay at their grandmother's farm whilst their mother recovers from an appendix operation.
The farm is set high upon the isolated Northumberland hills on the Military Road which runs alongside the great Hadrian's Wall.
The children meet local boy Theo who introduces them to Mary-Anne,
an archaeologist who is looking for evidence that a fort existed on Lord Ridgeman's land in Roman times.
Local character Old Joe tells the children of stranges noises to be heard near the wall and that he has seen the 'golden warrior'. He tells them that young Izzy has 'second sight' like her Nan but Josh scoffs at the idea that his sister can see and hear things he can't.
The three children help Mary-Anne with the excavations of the site and when Scruffy the dog falls through the roof of a vaulted ceiling the children are thrilled to discover a hoard of gold but worry when Lord Ridgeman's horrid land agent seems too interested in their find.
Things get unpleasant when Izzy and Mary-Anne go missing; the boys join the search for the girls......
Without giving away too much of the story I can at least say 'all ends well. I hope you will be able to visit Hadrian's Wall as I did, and like Izzy, Josh and Theo see all the amazing Roman treasures and want to read more about life in Roman Britain.
Happy reading, Angela Taylor
