This Playbook has evolved over the 50 years of teaching, starting with an emphasis of skills in my freshman course, leading to a book entitled, “10 Things Employers Want You to Learn in College,” published by Ten Speed Press.

Coaches create playbooks to help their teams win games. This playbook can be your coach, guiding you towards a winning career. It provides you with an opportunity to improve chances of pursuing a great career path. It allows you to adjust to different opportunities you may encounter throughout your career, just like how coaches adjust plays based on other teams’ defense during the season.

Skills Win!: A Playbook for Career Success is based on the idea that all careers require proficiency in the following 10 Skill Sets, which consist of 38 distinct skills. We call this the Skills Win! Playbook for an obvious reason; you need to master each of these 10 Skill Sets in order to be successful in any career field. While these skills are not the only skills your future career might require you to master, they are relevant to everyday life.
