‘A Fall of Water‘ is a timeless, fast moving adventure, linking the present and the past by the trust between a great hound and a man, in two very different times - Roman Britain in AD380 and the intrigues surrounding the legendary Magnus Maximus, and today.
At the end of a bleak winter in the hills a wolfhound, injured whilst running before a pack of feral hounds, is driven to seek refuge in the entrance of a river cave in the limestone country of South Wales. To this same cave, known locally as Ogof Cefil Wen, a cave diver has returned to investigate the disappearance of a team he was leading when it vanished six months before.
Around AD380, Magnus Maximus, Dux Britanica, rose against Rome. A cavalry commander in the Legio II Augusta, dispatched on a special mission, is led to this cave by another great hound, to be confronted by an influential, but covert, movement of Britons, and asked to use a dangerous parentage, of which he has been unaware, for the benefit of Britain in these turbulent times.
And so three fast moving and converging adventures commence, leading to unavoidable confrontations. Roman Britain is being drawn into unsustainable action against Rome, the cave is setting a trap for both Roman and diver alike, and both wolfhounds must face inescapable fates.
