Episode 2: Just Because You're Paranoid... (The Chronicles of Professor Jack Baling)

Jack is responsible for the deaths of two people. The first, his wife’s, was an accident. How was he supposed to know she’d shoot herself with his disintegrator ray? The second, that of his favorite student, is firmly on Jack’s shoulders. The kid was unarmed, running away and Jack shot him in the back. What stops Jack from killing again is the fact that his third victim, like him, is a mad scientist. As she says right before she kidnaps him, “Did you honestly believe that you were the only one?”

No. There are more mad scientists out there, and now that Jack has had his breakthrough, he finds himself thrust into their world, a realm of brilliance, madness, and well-founded paranoia. Some believe their abilities grant them special status, placing them into an elite stratum of humanity. Others believe their “gift” is really a curse, one that must be carefully scrutinized, lest they fall deeper into madness.

Before Jack can deal with these metaphysical questions, though, he must first survive the night.
