I’m always obsessed with books about happiness! As this book described, “Human happiness is a perplexing topic to delve into.”The book covered three big parts:Firstly, the deconstruction of happiness: What it is, how we experience it, and how we perceive it.The main points are: “We rarely notice happiness while we’re experiencing it, we only notice a lack of it once it’s gone!” (page 3); and “We’re bad at remembering what made us happy or unhappy in the past.” (page 4). For example, when measure...
Simple, precise and spot on!
This really resonated with me.
Great. Consistent. Simple and breathtaking. 1. Don't misperceive pleasures with happiness. The connection between them is actually a minor one. 2. In order to be happy make sure that you're in control of the flow where you float. 3. It's OK to be unhappy sometimes. Ups and downs are part of the process from where happiness comes from.
Only 20 pages long but completely changed my view on happiness - I will be re-reading this regularly
Didn’t like the way he talked about depressed people. Obviously some of them will be reading the book and hating on them would be the last thing they’d want to read.
Very short. Very readable. Not a real book. Some interesting but not too. A guide that can help us to force/reinforce for our targets. But there is not a real manual, only interestings tips and advice
It's short and that's one of the reasons that may lack some pillars for happiness, such as relationships. Mark has a direct approach to his writing and it's one of the things I admire him, but sometimes it can be misinterpreted.
You're happier if you feel like you have control over your life.
I've read a lot about the concept of happiness, so nothing new here for me. It's a nice summary of a lot of books for someone new to the subject. However... there is a huge, GLARING omission: the importance of maintaining personal relationships and the havoc that loneliness can wreak. We are hardwired to be social creatures, and no expert on the topic would leave social relationships out of the equation. Also, being so short, inconsistencies and irritants stick out much more. Here is one:"Comple...
Get it here. If you don't want to give out your e-mail address, wearing a peg leg, an eye patch and dying of vitamin C deficiency might work for you. We're very, very bad at judging what makes us happy. No matter what happens, everything's going to be okay.Be creative. Be grateful.Sounds clichay, but it's advice I'd love to be able to keep in mind always. and to his credit, Mark Manson made it sound profound. It is, actually, and it takes skill to turn a well-meaning but worn saying into something...
It's a short article about the people's perspective about happiness nowadays.. If I have a car I'll be happy, if I can travel every year I'll happy.. Rarely, we ask ourselves why I want this car in order to be happy?! But those who do this fluctuate in happiness less. “Just as a confident man doesn’t wonder if he’s confident, a happy man does not wonder if he’s happy. He simply is.”
Straight to the point. His advice was clear, compact and concise. Each page was enlightening and the book itself changed my perspective and shifted my values and goals to be healthier and more effective.
Don't mistake Pleasure, positivity, materialism and narcissism for happiness
Achieve more goals , buy more goods, travel more countries so you will be happy. But, will you?Underneath those glamorous outlook of yours, are you truly, sincerely happy? So often, we get lost chasing after external validation that we forget what truly makes us happy. This short read will reminds you of what’s important in life (: happy reading.
key take away: you are responsible for your happiness
This is not one of those exaggerated and long self help book. In fact, this isn’t a self help book at all (I think). Manson dug deep into the concept of happiness which is very intriguing because nowadays people talk a lot about it without knowing the true meaning. A really short eye opening article that you can finish in one sitting, and also urgent to talk about especially in your 20s.
A little repetitive from the subtle art novelBtw guys, this is free from Mark Manson internet page. It was a brief discussion and a short summary. The most pertinent concept is the transient feeling of joy and happiness. What may be enjoyable to you initially may not actually seem so after you’ve experienced it. And this is very true, which is why humans tend to not cherish things and are not satisfied with just one amazing thing. We always yearn for something more and even better than the one w...
