With Malice Aforethought

With Malice Aforethought

Louis Carney
0/5 ( ratings)
The novel With Malice Aforethought focuses on a what happens to people as they become manipulated by others, and when the person who are being manipulated find the truth. The dilemma occurs when you have to make a choice: Learn, accept and change or have someone to blame for your miserable existence. Two of the major characters in this story travel down different paths; one path to redemption and the other, a deranged murderer.
During the turbulent sixties, Sean Casey, an orphaned, university bound student became molded by events of his youth: the growing sense of hope, the growing demand for equality and the belief in justice for all. Tragedy soon befell Casey, and this haunting impact would forever change him. Eventually, Casey found some resolve in Orange County, California and the subsequent career as a police officer and later his assignment to Homicide Investigations.
Three decades earlier a harsher turbulent mortal storm blew through Germany that molded the corps of impressionable Nazi youths like the young, orphaned Max Kramer. From the height of the Reich’s prowess to the humiliating rubble of defeat, Max was an emotional wreck in search of a purpose; unfortunately, his purpose sends him into the downward spiral of penchant reprisals against those he held responsible. “Marta, you were wrong. It is not a few years you have left. It’s seconds. But you are right about one thing, you have now been paid in full for your silence!”
The maelstrom between Casey’s profession and Max’s predilection for revenge would soon intertwine, but not without an unsuspected complication: Maria Lake. Maria is a young, idealistic African-American woman who had been recently been promoted to Homicide Investigator. She is quite aware of her senior partner’s biases; now, a great wall of mistrust divided Lake and Casey and created a whirlwind of tumultuous hostility. Lake is now in a quandary: She can only become an effective investigator by unraveling what haunts Casey, and, at the same time, follow the clues that will unlock the haunting mysteries of Max.
