The Angel Book Store & ChocolateCake (The Ladies on Honeysuckle Road 8)

The Angel Book Store & ChocolateCake (The Ladies on Honeysuckle Road 8)

The buzzing of circular saws and the thunk of nail guns filled the air in the shoppe. Remodeling was in full swing and sawdust was the main ingredient of the front room instead of chocolate cake. Ralph and his crew had built The Chocolate Kiss and were now in the middle of the transformation of Monica?s Chocolate Angel Cakes shoppe into an angel bookstore. Most of the build would be book shelves and cushioned benches for people to lounge around upon while they were browsing for books. There would still be the front glass counter that held the delicious chocolate angel cakes. The tables were rearranged and more comfortable chairs added to encourage people to stay awhile, read a little, eat some cake and enjoy their favorite coffee or hot chocolate. Monica was in the back room which was being expanded to create an office for Nate and Veronica. The chocolate cake production room remained the same, Martha and her staff were busy baking and frosting the special order of chocolate cakes for the diner down the street. Monica knew that this decision had been made because of financial constraints, merging her chocolate cake shoppe with Nate and Veronica?s new book store, but in her heart she knew that the angels were at work and that this adventure would prove to be exciting to say the least.
Ever since Ethel, who owned the mini mall, had sprung her ?grand idea? on them, the four entrepreneurs were getting together at least once a day to plan and support each other. Monica?s chocolate cake was famous in Spartanville and people always came to her shoppe to order birthday cakes and wedding cakes, but that business hadn?t been enough to keep the cash flow positive for them. So when Ethel suggested that they merge and share space with Nate and Veronica, everything seemed absolutely divine and the details fell in place perfectly. With the book store helping pay the rent, Monica knew that her special orders would bring the cash flow to a positive amount. The book store customers would add some extra income with their purchase of pieces of cake, especially her famous mini ?hot? chocolate cake. Now their main focus was going to be special orders and offering her cakes at a variety of shoppes in town. Max, who owned the diner down the street, was already a big fan of her cakes and today was the first run of Monica?s chocolate cake special for his lunch crowd. They were starting small, but figured that once people knew that her cake was available they?d have to offer it more than once a week.
Barry and Nate were looking over the plans for the remodel. ?Well, it looks great on paper. I hope it looks as good in the physical. I can?t be out there in the front room very much. The noise gets to me and I want to cover my ears and run screaming into the next county.? Nate grinned as he watched Barry?s reaction. ?I hear you buddy. I?m glad I?m not a contractor. I think they should be wearing ear plugs. Have you decided what type of books you are going to carry in your store?? Nate looked at his friend in amazement, ?What do you mean? Books? I?m only going to stock my books. Why would I want to sell anyone else?s books?? That statement made them both laugh out loud. ?Yea, right. There?s no way you can get away with not stocking books on angels. That is the name of your book store. Just how many books have been written about angels?? Rolling his eyes, Nate answered, ?You wouldn?t believe how many, hundreds if not thousands. But I?m very selective about what I?m going to offer to people. First of all I don?t want to scare away my conservative fellow Wisconsinites from coming in by having any of those far out unbelievable books about angels. We?re going to start with the ?safe? variety before we bring in the really weird ones.
